NASHVILLE,
Tenn. (August 16, 2009) - The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR)
bucked into Tennessee for the 2009 Jack Daniel’s Invitational, stop no.
25 on the elite Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) tour. Fans were treated
to the 40 best bull riders in the world as they competed against top
bulls from across the country at Nashville’s Sommet Center. In the
end, Oregon young gun Cody Ford (Stanfield, Ore.) emerged victorious
after scoring 263.75 points on three bulls, taking home the coveted
event title. Ford added $38,932 to his bank account as well as
valuable points to his 2009 Built Ford Tough Series World Standings.
This win was not only his second in the 2009 season, but his second
BFTS career victory.
"Cody
(Lambert) put a great pen of bulls together for this event and I really
took advantage of it,” Ford said from the winner’s circle. “As a
professional athlete, I show up to win every round at every event. I
also really want to thank Jack Daniel’s for sponsoring such a great
event in a terrific city.”
In
round one, Ford won first place with a score of 88.5 points on Jeff
Robinson/Mike Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy/Bar None’s bull, Booger
Butt. He followed that up by riding his second re-ride bull, Buffalo
Hump, owned by Hebert Bucking Bulls/Barry & Aliceson Bales, for
86.5 points. Ford entered the Built Ford Tough Championship Round in
first place on two bulls with a total of 175 points, giving him the
first pick in the PBR Bull Draft. He chose to get on the bull,
Carrillo Cartel (4C’s Bucking Bulls/James Sills) and tamed him for
88.75 points, locking up the event win.
“I
rode Carrillo Cartel last year,” Ford stated. “He tries hard and is a
good bull so that’s why I picked him again here in the short-go.”
Taking
second place in Nashville was 2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi
(Leme, SP, Brazil) who scored a total of 263 points. Marchi collected
a check for $15,886 and this finish moved him from third to second
place in the World Standings. Current world no. 1 Kody Lostroh
(Longmont, Colo.) rode for a third place finish after totaling 257.75
points, adding $9.592 to his bank account. Fourth place went to
two-time World Champ Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.) who rode two bulls
for 180.5 points and collected $9,300 while Zack Brown (Santa Fe,
Texas) rounded out fifth place with 179.75 points and a check for
$9,030.
Nashville
was stop no. 8 of 9 on the 2009 PBR Bull Team Competition. Fourteen
teams have been formed, each competing for their share of a total tour
purse of over $500,000 throughout the 2009 season. The team, Mac-Nett
Industries, took first place and the $10,000 check after totaling 137
points, beating out second place team, Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC, who
ended the event with 136.25 points and a second place check worth
$5,000.
PBR
will host its premiere international event on August 28-30 as
twenty-five bull riders will ride for their respective countries at the
2009 PBR World Cup presented by Dickies in Barretos, Sao Paulo,
Brazil. Meanwhile, the race for PBR’s million dollar world title will
take the top 40 bull riders in the world to The Silver State of Nevada
for stop no. 26 on the prestigious BFTS tour. PBR will buck into
Reno’s Lawlor Events Center on September 11-13, showcasing the best

INJURY REPORT: Valdiron
de Oliveira (Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil) suffered a concussion
during the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. He is probable for the
World Cup.
BEHIND THE CHUTES: Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s “Ride with the Best” Bonus: Due
to his round two win at the Bud Light Invitational, Aaron Roy (Asquith,
SK, Canada) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise
Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during round one of the Jack
Daniel’s Invitational. Because he did not make the eight second
whistle on the bull, Wolf Boy, the stock contractor, Ricky West/Talbert
Land & Cattle took home the $5,000 bonus.
2009
Jack Daniel’s Invitational event winner Cody Ford (Stanfield, Ore.) was
eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the
Best” bonus during round two of the Nashville event. Ford rode the
bull, Buffalo Hump, owned by Hebert Bucking Bulls/Barry & Aliceson
Bales; therefore, he collected the $5,000 bonus check.
As
the winner of round two, Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil) will be
eligible for the bonus during round one at the 26th BFTS stop in Reno,
Nev.
Ford Truck Moment of Truth Bonus: Cody
Ford (Stanfield, Ore.) was in the lead going into the Built Ford Tough
Championship Round and ultimately won the Jack Daniel’s Invitational
and collected the $5,000 bonus. The bonus will be $5,000 at the Reno
Invitational in September. The bonus grows by $5,000 each week if it
is not claimed. Once claimed, it returns to $5,000.
Ford F-150 Challenge:| As
the Jack Daniel’s Invitational event winner, Cody Ford (Stanfield,
Ore.) has qualified for a chance to participate as a Ford F-150
Challenge contestant at the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals,
against all other 2009 Built Ford Tough Series event winners who
qualify for the Finals. The Ford F-150 Challenge contestant who
finishes the highest in the event aggregate during the 2009 PBR Built
Ford Tough World Finals will win $50,000 towards the purchase of a
brand-new 2009 F-150 truck.
Salem NationaLease Bull of the Event: The
bulls, Voodoo Child, owned by Jeff Robinson/Beutler/Bar
None/HylandMcNeely/Broken N-N, and 2008 World Champion bull, Bones ,
owned by Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC, tied for Bull of the Event honors
with a score of 46.75 points. This honor is acknowledged by an award
of $1,250 going to the top bull of each event as determined by the PBR
judges’ bull score.
High-Marked Ride of the Event: Zack
Brown (Santa Fe, Texas) recorded the high-marked ride of the Jack
Daniel’s Invitational in Nashville, Tenn., during the Built Ford Tough
Championship Round after riding top bull, Chicken on a Chain, owned by
Jeff Robinson/Mike Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy/Bar None, for 92 points.
Daisy Rookie of the Year Standings: The
2009 Daisy Rookie of the Year race is going strong and after a strong
showing at the Jack Daniel’s Invitational, Kansas cowboy Skeeter
Kingsolver (Mclouth, Kan.) retook the lead of the 2009 Daisy Rookie of
the Year race while Tennessee cowboy Cody Nance (Paris, Tenn.) and
young Aussie Pete Farley (Kempsey, AUS) are right on his heels. A
rider is considered a rookie in the year he debuts on the elite Built
Ford Tough Series tour. The Daisy Rookie is determined by the rider
who has won the most money during the year at all PBR events including
Challenger events, International events, BFTS events, and the PBR Built
Ford Tough World Finals.
