July 25, 2009 / Guthrie, OK
-For the past 9
years, Ednei Caminhas has entered PBR Bullnanza events at the Lazy E
Arena. The Bullnanza title is one of few that the 2002 PBR World
Champion has not added to his trophy room until now. On Saturday night
before a packed crowd at the Lazy E Arena, Caminhas from
Sao Paulo,
Brazil finally won the elusive
Bullnanza gold buckle by covering two bulls for a combined score of
172.5. The win was worth almost $5,000 which will help in the chase to
qualify for the PBR World Finals in
Las Vegas
this fall.
Caminhas was the only rider to cover his bull "Red Devil"ť owned by
Circle T in the Jack Daniels Short Round for an 87.5 ride in which he
combined with an 85-point ride in the first go around. Turns out it was
enough points to hold off some of the top PBR riders in the country.
Home state favorites and two of the most popular riders on the PBR tour
Cord McCoy and Ryan Dirteater finished just shy of Caminhas for second
and third place respectively. Both McCoy and Dirteater had more points
heading into the short round, but both failed to ride their short go
bulls.
Brazilian sensation and 2008 PBR World Finals Champion Robson Palermo
from Acre,
Brazil bested
the field of elite PBR riders Friday night.
Palermo was one of three international riders to
place in Round 1. Palermo
scored an 87.5 on "The Geetus" owned by PBR World Champion Bull
Contractor H.D. Page. During Saturday night's second round, it was
Australia's Ben Jones taking the win
with a score of 87-points on "LSU Tiger"ť from Wagner-Fitzgerald bulls.
PBR Bullnanza, was a two-day bull riding extravaganza produced by Lazy E
Productions, sanctioned by the PBR and was a stop on the 2009 million
dollar PBR Copenhagen Bull Riding Challenger Tour.
Bullnanza has a 20-year history of producing world-class bull riding
events across the country and at the Lazy E Arena.
Friday night's performance, sponsored by Langston's Western Wear (July
24) featured one full go round of action with the top 45 PBR riders
competing. On Saturday night (July 25), the 45 PBR riders again competed
in the second round sponsored by Priefert Ranch and Rodeo Equipment.
The scores from each round were added, and the top 12 riders advanced to
the Jack Daniels Short-Go to determine the champion. In all, Bullnanza
featured 102 breathtaking rides over the two day competition.
Some of the best PBR stock contracting firms, headed by multiple time
PBR Contract of the Year H.D. Page, brought one of the rankest pens of
bulls ever assembled to the Lazy E Arena. In addition to the all star
bulls, riders that competed included 2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme
Marchi and other fan favorites BFTS Cowboys Josh Koshel, Pete Farley,
Dustin Hall, Jordan Hupp, Ben Jones, Cody Nance, Pistol Robinson, Pim
Rosa, and Travis Sellers. Caminhas now joins the fraternity of famed
Bullnanza Champions that include legends highlighted by
Tuff Hedeman, Matt Austin, Michael Gaffney, Adriano
Moraes, Jim Sharp, Terry Don West, J.W. Hart, Justin McBride and J.B.
Mauney.
