PBR SUPERSTAR J.B. MAUNEY IS THE CHAMP!

Professional Bull Riding makes it’s second trip to Kentucky

 

May 30, 2009 / Lexington, KY   -      For the second straight year, the Professional Bull Riders invaded the Bluegrass State and put on a great show at Lexington’s famed Rupp Arena! When the dust settled, the hottest rider on the planet, J.B. Mauney from Mooresville, NC rode all three of his bulls for his first PBR Bullnanza title.

 

Mauney, who was last year’s PBR Reserve World Champion and is currently ranked number 3 in the 2009 World Standings thrilled the Kentucky fans with three electric rides totaling 263 points. In the first round on Friday night, Mauney rode “Mr. Incredible” from the Murphy Ranch for an 88.5 for second place in the round. In the second round, Mauney stayed solid with an 84.5 effort and rounded out the short round with an event-high and round winning ride of 90-points aboard “El Presidente” owned by Jeff Robinson.

 

2008 PBR World Finals Champion Robson Palermo, from Rio Blanco, Acre, Brazil finished a close second after covering all three of his bulls for a total of 259-points. Rounding out the top 4 in the average was Willis Trosclair and L.J. Jenkins respectively. Round one winner, with an 89-point effort aboard “Pages Rage” owned by 5G Farms, Cory Rasch from Clarksville, TN was injured during the second round and did not compete in the short go. Crowd favorite Colby Yates of Ft. Worth, TX won the second go with an impressive 88-point ride on “Puddin” from Sammy Andrews.

 

PBR – Bullnanza, is a two-day bull riding extravaganza produced by Lazy E Productions, sanctioned by the PBR and was a stop on the 2009 million dollar PBR Copenhagen Bull Riding Challenger Tour.  Bullnanza has a 20-year history of producing world-class bull riding events across the country.

 

Friday night’s performance, sponsored by 98.1 The Bull (May 29) featured one full go-round of action with the top 45 PBR riders competing. On Saturday night (May 30), the 45 PBR riders again competed in the second round sponsored by WKYT.  The scores from each round were added, and the top 12 advanced to the Jack Daniels Short-Go to determine the champion. In all, Bullnanza featured 116 breathtaking rides over the two day competition.

 

Some of the best PBR stock contracting firms, headed by multiple-time Contract of the Year – Sammy Andrews, brought one of the rankest pens of bulls ever assembled to Northern Kentucky. Two of the most famous bulls in the world “Major Payne” and “Booger Butt” were featured on Saturday Night. In addition to the all star bulls, riders that competed included 2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi and other fan favorites – Dustin Hall, Kasey Hayes, Evan Rasch, Steven Shelley, and Sean Willingham. Mauney now joins the fraternity of famed Bullnanza Champions that include legends highlighted by Tuff Hedeman, Matt Austin, Michael Gaffney, Adriano Moraes, Jim Sharp, Terry Don West, J.W. Hart and Justin McBride.
