CARDOZA IS THE WORLD’S GREATEST ROPER!

California Cowboy Russell Cardoza Wins $25,000

Reno, Nevada /  June 20, 2010The World’s Greatest Roper came to a close on Sunday afternoon when Farmington, California phenom roper Russell Cardoza roped his way into history by claiming $25,000 and the 2010 title of “World’s Greatest Roper”.

After a three long rounds of competition and an intense short go at the Reno Livestock Events Center, Cardoza bested a field of PRCA World Champions, former World’s Greatest Roper Champions, multiple Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Qualifiers, Pro Rodeo Hall of Famers, and the overall best ropers on the planet to win the prestigious $71,000 World’s Greatest Roper event presented by Silver Legacy Resort Casino.

Cardoza is no stranger to big time competition or winning some of the most prestigious events on pro rodeo. A National Finals Rodeo qualifier in the Team Roping – Heeling last year, Cardoza placed third at the NFR and finished ninth in the final year-end PRCA standings. Also in 2009, Cardoza was crowned the Dodge National Circuit Finals Champion. Cardoza is also a contestant at the “Ironman” of Pro Rodeo, the Wrangler Timed Event Championship in Guthrie, Oklahoma each year. The consensus of industry professionals knew that it was only a matter of time before Cardoza would win the WGR crown. Cardoza took home $25,000.00 and had a total time of 107.6 on 12-head of livestock.

In the reserve spot, Madisonville, Texas roper Colby Lovell finished the event with 112.1 seconds ($12,000.00), followed by 2-Time WGR Champion Daniel Green of Oakdale, California – 123.6 ($7,000.00), Nevada favorite and Fallon native Jade Corkill – 131.7 ($4,000.00), and rounding out fifth was NFSR Qualifier Landon McClaugherty from Tilden, Texas – 134.8 ($5,500.00).

Other top money paid out was to another Californian – former NFR Qualifier Caleb Twisselman from Santa Margarita who claimed the “Fastest Round” of the competition – a 22.6 worth $6,000.00. A complete breakdown of money won at this year’s WGR follows this release.

Lazy E Productions made a minor change in the event format from previous years. The entire event took place one-day only – June 20th at 10:00AM preceding the prestigious Bob Feist Invitational on Monday. The WGR was “OPEN TO THE WORLD”. Meaning, any cowboy could enter this year’s event – thus again making the WGR a true WORLD COMPETITION. All totaled, the WGR action was fast and furious boasting 345 runs in a one-day showcase of the best Timed Event cowboys on the planet!

The event was again held in conjunction with two of the greatest western events in the world “The Reno Rodeo” and “The Bob Feist Invitational Team Roping”. Organizers from all three major forces in the rodeo industry are committed to making the first weekend of the Reno Rodeo one spectacular show by again combining the Reno Rodeo, the  World’s Greatest Roper, and the Bob Feist Invitational Team Roping - all within 2 action-packed days.

The World’s Greatest Roper is one of pro rodeo’s most unique events and is patterned after the highly successful Wrangler Timed Event Championship – which is a true all-around test of roping skills. At the WGR, each contestant is required to compete in all three roping disciplines: team roping heading, tie-down roping, and team roping heeling. The World’s Greatest Roper was developed by Lazy E Productions in 2006 to determine the best roper in the world - the man who could stand out in more than his specialty roping event, the man who could be consistent over multiple rounds of over-all competition. This event attracted the biggest names in the rodeo industry in addition to thousands of fans from across the country!

The World’s Greatest Roper was sponsored by Reno-Tahoe, the Silver Legacy Resort Casino, Boot Barn, Circus-Circus Reno, Priefert Ranch & Rodeo Equipment, Ariat Boots, Gist Silversmiths, Boyd gaming, CSI Saddlepads, Rodeo Video, Western Horseman Magazine, ProRodeoLive.com, the Reno Rodeo, the Bob Feist Invitational Team Roping Classic and Cactus Saddlery.

WGR gearing up for 5th Year

Reno, Nevada /  March 18, 2010The World’s Greatest Roper is making Reno, Nevada again home to this one-of-a-kind world championship event. The top timed event cowboys in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) will compete for the prestigious title of The World’s Greatest Roper and an anticipated purse of over $75,000.

Lazy E Productions proudly announces a minor change in the event format from previous years. The entire event will take place on one-day only – June 20th at 10:00AM preceding the prestigious Bob Feist Invitational on Monday. The WGR is “OPEN TO THE WORLD”. Meaning, any contestant can enter this year’s event – thus again making the WGR a true WORLD COMPETITION. All totaled, the WGR action should be fast and furious boasting over 345 runs in a one-day showcase of the best Timed Event cowboys on the planet competing for the title of the World’s Greatest Roper!

The event is again being held in conjunction with two of the greatest western events in the world “The Reno Rodeo” and “The Bob Feist Invitational Team Roping”. "The Reno Rodeo is really pleased to see the return of the World's Greatest Roping for year three in Reno. This is a world-class event having all the earmarks of gaining popularity in short order to the size of the fan base experienced by the BFI. The BFI and WGR are spectacular back-to-back events that have turned the Reno Rodeo into a roping Mecca and the place to be at the beginning of summer," said Reno Rodeo President Ray Callahan.

This event attracts the biggest names in the rodeo industry in addition to thousands of fans from across the country! Some of the cowboys scheduled to compete for the mega-jackpot purse are highlighted by 7-time PRCA All Around World Champion Trevor Brazile; two-time World’s Greatest Roper Daniel Green; Defending 2009 Champion Preston Williams; 2008 WGR Champion K.C. Jones; PRCA World Champions Matt Sherwood, Chad Masters, and Randon Adams; multiple NFR qualifiers Kyle Lockett, Marty Becker, and Kory Koontz; and ProRodeo Hall of Famer Jimmie Cooper.

Each round of competition features excitement with leaders changing after every run, with only seconds separating them. The champion isn’t determined until the last rope is thrown, the flag is dropped and the clock has stopped.  Last year in Reno, 5-time Indian National Finals Champion Preston Williams of Casa Grande, Arizona bested a field of 42 World Champion titles earning him a payday of $25,000 and the title of World’s Greatest Roper.

The World’s Greatest Roper is sponsored by Reno-Tahoe, the Silver Legacy Resort Casino, Boot Barn, Circus-Circus Reno, Priefert Ranch & Rodeo Equipment, Ariat Boots, Gist Silversmiths, CSI Saddlepads, Rodeo Video, ProRodeoLive.com, the Reno Rodeo, the Bob Feist Invitational Team Roping Classic and Cactus Saddlery.
